Celebrating in the light of Christ.
17 June 2018, 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B)
DAY FOR LIFE: HUMAN TRAFFICKING
Each year the Church sets aside a day for us to reflect on the sanctity of human life, from ‘womb to tomb’. This year we are reflecting on human trafficking and modern slavery. Pope Francis has invoked the intercession of St Josephine Bakhita, the patron of victims of trafficking and slavery, praying that the chains of captivity might be broken. He prays that God might free all those who have been threatened, wounded or mistreated by the trade and trafficking of human beings and bring comfort to those who have survived such inhumanity.
Day For Life is celebrated yearly by the Catholic Church in Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. It is a day dedicated to raising awareness about the meaning and value of human life at every stage and in every condition. The Catholic community can make a real difference to help solve this problem.
There are many organisations working to put a stop to human trafficking and modern slavery. One of these, the Santa Marta Group, works internationally to bring the Catholic Church and law enforcement agencies together to eradicate slavery, to find out more visit www.santamartagroup.com . Locally, dioceses, Caritas and other church communities can effect real change for trafficked people living in these areas. For more information and to donate online, please visit www.dayforlife.org/donate.
The Safe Car Wash app has been launched by the Catholic and Anglican Churches in UK. By downloading and using it, with its link to the modern slavery helpline, this abuse of people can be stemmed. Some car wash companies, such as IMO, after consumer pressure, have published an anti-slavery policy.

Welcome also to Fr Joe Cocucci, a friend of Fr Shaun’s, from Wilmington Diocese in the USA who is visiting along with Fr John Ciccero SJ, from Fordham University, who is in London for meetings over the next week. What was it that somebody said about priests and London buses?!
You should have received an email from Pat Connolly, requesting your availability for Masses in July, August and September.
Reply deadline this Sunday 17th June.
Ss PETER AND PAUL – ADVANCE NOTICE
Friday 29 June is the Feast of Ss Peter and Paul and It is a Holyday of Obligation. Mass will be at the usual times for Holydays; Thursday 28th June 7.30pm and Friday 29th 7am & 10am. The annual collection for ‘Peter’s Pence’ (the Pope’s expenses) takes place on that day.
CHURCHES TOGETHER HOLIDAY CLUB 23 – 27 JULY
This is an exciting ecumenical venture for primary-aged children with a pirate theme. Lots of volunteers needed (including teenagers) Fr Shaun has details. We need volunteers, both adults and secondary school pupils, and training will be given. As well as helping with activities we need people to provide lunch for volunteers, admin support and prayer partners. Come and hear more after Mass. Information meeting on Saturday 23rd June 9.30am in Christ Church Hall, Little Heath. Flyers are available today.
BAPTISM PREPARATION MEETINGS
The next baptism preparation meetings will take place on Monday 25 June and Monday 2 July from 7.30pm until 9pm. If you would like to have your child baptised please give your details to Fr Shaun, Deacon Don and contact the office to register for the course. Both parents are encouraged to attend the meetings.
The Prayer group meets every Tuesday at 10.45am in the Reconciliation Room. Jesus said where 2 or 3 are gathered in His name, there He is and we know that praying together rather than alone is more efficacious. New members welcome.
We are in need of help with flowers. You don’t need to be a florist just have a love for flowers. Four volunteers to form a team would make your commitment once a month. Please leave your details with the Parish Office if you can help.
FIRST RECONCILIATION & HOLY COMMUNION and CONFIRMATION, COURSES 2019
Thankyou for all the submitted registration forms. You will receive an email from Francesca Khaliq this week to confirm the place for Confirmation/First Holy Communuion and Reconciliation. If you do not receive an email, then please let the Parish Office know as soon as possible.

MINISTRY OF CATECHIST
We are fortunate in having many parishioners who give generously of their time and talents to help our young parishioners prepare for the sacraments. If your child has benefitted this year would you consider volunteering for this important ministry next academic year? Please speak with Francesca or Fr Shaun for details of what is involved. Full training is given. You are never on your own and it is a very enjoyable thing to do. PLEASE consider it and speak to us as soon as possible so that the DBS checks and training can be arranged.

The ticket cost is £5.00 for adults, £3 children (under age 11). These must be purchased in advance and will be available after each Mass commencing this weekend. Please note, this is a ticket only event.
The cost covers food (please bring your own drinks and glasses) and entertainment, including a live 10-piece Gospel/Covers band along with a few short sets by parish musicians.
We are now looking for a large barbeque, volunteers in particular Children’s entertainment e.g. Face Painting etc. If you are age 16 or over and would like to be part of the musical entertainment let us know. If you are able to help with any of the above, contact: Angela Walsh Tel: 07964783580
To everyone involved in the Mass, Blessed Sacrament Procession and Adoration last Friday. It was such a powerful witness and people were very impressed with the reverence and focus shown by the children. Thanks to parishioners, school staff and especially the two PCSOs who helped us cross the road safely.
You may remember that the Lent/Easter Cross was due to come down at Pentecost but a large number of people have asked to have it left up as it is much larger than the original and a better focus for prayer. It would be nice to have a Crucifix (ie. with Jesus on it) of this size in that position. If you have any thoughts please speak to Fr Shaun (or email/write)
