Holy Trinity – Perfect Love in Action
In today’s Gospel the disciples fall down in awe before the risen Lord Jesus. But he raises them up with the command to go and baptise all the nations in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We can often get tied up with words in trying to explain the Holy Trinity. There is nothing wrong with trying to articulate this wonderful mystery but we must not lose sight of what it means in our lives.
The love of Father, Son and Holy Spirit is a perfect love and we, by our baptism are invited to live as sons and daughters of the Father, as sisters and brothers of the Son in the unity of the Holy Spirit.
There is a famous icon painted around 1410 by Andrei Rubev depicting the three angels who visited Abraham at the Oak of Mamre (you can search for it on line if you don’t know it.) It is often interpreted as an icon of the Trinity. The three angels sit enjoying a meal along three sides of a table. The fourth side faces the viewer and is empty. It is as if the angels are inviting the viewer to sit and eat with them. God, the Holy Trinity, invites each one of us to share his love and hospitality.
Our Church on earth should also be an icon of that love and hospitality. Each one of us should take responsibility for welcoming each other and, in particular, the visitor or the stranger.

CHURCHES TOGETHER MONTHLY PRAYER
On Saturday 2nd June at 8am we meet at the Evangelical Free Church in Mimms Hall Road for prayer and breakfast! All are very welcome – it is important that we pray together.
The Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ is in half term but the bishops have asked us to mark the feast with some act of public witness. On Friday 8th June at 1.15pm there will be an outdoor Mass at Pope Paul School (weather permitting!) and then a procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the church for Benediction. The Blessed Sacrament will then remain exposed until 10pm when there will be Compline (Sung Night Prayer) and Benediction. Individuals/groups are asked to sign-up to pray for an hour slot so that the Blessed Sacrament is never left unattended (at least two people in the church at any time.)
We also need petals for the children to scatter – there will be a box available next weekend.
Confirmation & First Holy Communion cards and gifts are available from the Repository in the Parish Hall after all weekend Masses.
We are in need of help with flowers. You don’t need to be a florist just have a love for flowers. Four volunteers to form a team would make your commitment once a month. Please leave your details with the Parish Office if you can help.
Mass Intentions for July can be booked in person or by phone from 10.30am on Tuesday 5 June 2018.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION SENDING FORTH MASS – 9th June at 6pm

CHRISTMAS IS COMING!
We have been given two beautiful crib sets; a large one for the narthex and a smaller one. It would be nice to adapt the crib shell we have with perspex to put outside the church with the smaller figures. Is there anybody with basic carpentry skills who could take this on – there is plenty of time. The large figures (Our Lady is in the Reconciliation Room at the moment) will require a base and some surroundings. If you have an artistic flair you might like to organise this. Please speak to Fr Shaun if you are interested – there is plenty of time.
CATECHIST SUMMER CONFERENCE 7TH JULY
The Agency for Evangelisation is offering a summer conference for all catechists on Saturday 7th July from 10am – 4pm in Hammersmith; the main speaker will be Fr Denis McBride. If you would like to attend please let the parish office know as soon as possible.
FRIENDS OF POPE PAUL SCHOOL
If anyone would like to place an advert for their business in the brochure for the Pope Paul Catholic School Summer Fayre please contact Emily at FOPPS@popepaul.herts.sch.uk.The deadline for advertising is Friday 8th June.
You may remember that the Lent/Easter Cross was due to come down at Pentecost but a large number of people have asked to have it left up as it is much larger than the original and a better focus for prayer. It would be nice to have a Crucifix (i.e. with Jesus on it) of this size in that position. If you have any thoughts please speak to Fr Shaun (or email/write) and we will look into some options.
OVER 50S’ CLUB DAY OUT
Reminder all those booked on the trip to Southend on Wed 6 June, coach leaves the Church at 9.30am prompt. Any queries please call Bernie on 01707 661014
